Parking Lot Questions, Answered
The questions we get asked most often in Wylie. If yours is not here, call (818) 814-0978.
How long does the parking lot have to be closed?
For striping, not long — the paint is usually ready for cars in about 30 minutes in warm weather, and we work in sections so part of the lot stays open. Sealcoat needs about 24 hours without traffic, so we schedule it in sections or over a day when the property is closed.
Can you stripe our church lot without affecting Sunday services?
Yes. Church lots are striped on Saturdays, and the paint is dry long before Sunday morning. If you are also sealcoating, we plan the dates so the surface is dry and re-striped in time for worship.
How much does it cost to re-stripe a parking lot?
Re-striping existing lines is about $5 per line, a little more when old lines are so faded they must be re-measured. Stencils like handicap symbols and arrows are priced individually. Our minimum job is $500. See the full price guide.
How often should a parking lot be re-striped?
In North Texas, every one to two years for most lots — the sun fades paint quickly, and busy drive lanes wear faster. Lots that are sealcoated get new stripes every time they are sealed, because sealcoat covers the old lines.
When should asphalt be sealcoated?
When the surface has turned from black to grey or rough, and roughly every two to three years after that. Sealing earlier and on a schedule keeps the asphalt from drying out and cracking, which is far cheaper than repaving.
What weather do you need?
Dry pavement and temperatures above about 50 degrees for both paint and sealcoat, and no rain expected for about a day after sealcoating. In North Texas that is most of the year; a few cold or wet winter weeks are the exception.
Do you give written bids?
Always. Every bid lists the number of lines, each stencil, the square footage for sealcoating, crack filling by the foot, and any extras, so you know exactly what you are paying for — and so your board or manager can approve it.
Do you work on government or multi-location contracts?
Yes. Motana Striping & Sealcoat is a DBA of Motana Speed LLC, a small business registered in SAM.gov. We bid multi-location and public-sector parking lot work. See our government and commercial page.
